An Australian Bulldog has died after being thrown off a cliff

An investigation is underway following an alleged act of animal cruelty near Wollongong.

About 8.30am today (22 January 2023), a man was bushwalking near Clive Bissell Drive at Mount Ousley when he heard a dog yelping.

The man searched the area and located an upside-down kennel at the base of an escarpment.

An Australian Bulldog was located injured in the kennel; the dog also appeared emaciated and of poor health.

Police were alerted and officers from Wollongong Police District, Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, along with the SES, attended and conducted a rescue operation to retrieve the dog.

It’s believed the kennel had been thrown off the cliff in the early hours of today.

The dog was taken to a local vet; however, was euthanised due to his poor condition and injuries.

An investigation into the incident is underway; the kennel has been seized and is undergoing forensic examination.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area, or anyone with a dashcam that drove through the area this morning and might have footage that can assist, to contact local police or Crime Stoppers.
