A child has been injured after she was attacked by a dog in her backyard at Abermain this afternoon.
About 3pm (Sunday 5 April 2020), the 10-year-old girl was playing with her dog when it bit her several times to the face and arm.
The child was able to escape the dog and her parents provided first aid before contacting emergency services.
The girl was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment suffering severe facial lacerations and puncture wounds. Cessnock City Council attended and seized the animal and inquiries are continuing.
