DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LEADS TO POLICE STAND-OFF

A man is in custody after a stand-off with police at East Gosford overnight.

Officers from Brisbane Water Police Area Command attended a unit block in Melbourne Street about 11pm (Thursday 20 February 2020), in relation to a domestic-related assault.

Police were told, a 47-year-old woman had been assaulted in a unit at the complex by a man known to her, after he allegedly discharged a firearm inside.

The woman was able to leave the unit and notify police.

Officers established a perimeter around the unit block and further specialist resources attended.

Following negotiations, a 51-year-old man was taken into custody about 2.30am (Friday 21 February 2020), without further incident. He remains at Gosford Police Station.

A handgun was seized from the unit and has been seized for forensic examination.

Inquiries are continuing.
