80,000 customers lost power in last night’s severe lightning storms

80,000 customers lost power in last night’s severe lightning storms across Sydney, the Central Coast and Hunter.

As at 9am we have safely restored power to more than 50,000 customers overnight. Ausgrid is working to restore less than 30,000 customers.

Last nights storm was short and sharp, and the damage was much less than the previous storm, which was the worst to impact our network in 20 years.

At this stage we expect power to be returned to the majority of customers during the course of today.

There have been hundreds of hazards reported on the network including fallen trees and powerlines.

If you see fallen wires always assume they’re live, never approach them, stay at least 8metres away and call Ausgrid on 131388.
