A man has been shot dead by police after he walked into a police station and pointed a firearm at police

A critical incident investigation is underway after police shot an armed man in Tenterfield today.

About 5.45pm (Thursday 19 January 2023), a 48-year-old man attended Tenterfield Police Station and pointed a firearm at officers from New England Police District before he was shot.

Despite the efforts of responding police and NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man died at the scene.

A critical incident team comprised of officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of a police firearm.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.
