Calls for automatic amber alerts in NSW after a boy went missing in Weston in the Hunter Region on Monday the 6th of January, police and family started searching for the boy, a quick-thinking family member made post to a Facebook community group which lead to boy being found safe and well a short time later.

NSW police can issue an alert for a child they are concerned about or for child who has been abducted but these alerts are not automatic or compulsory, given how effective the Facebook alert was in finding this child should some kind if alert be issued automatically when a child disappears.
