Anthony Albanese’s government turns it back on mental health

During the first year of the pandemic the LNP increased Medicare subsidies for mental health appointments from 10 to 20 appointments per year, which is a massive win for people who require access to mental health.

Without Medicare subsidies these appointments are just not affordable for the most vulnerable people who suffer from mental health.

Unfortunately the Albanese government who promised no one would be left behind are going to halve the number appointments from 20 to 10 appointments per year, leaving those who cannot afford these much needed appointments go without.

Health Minister Mark Butler said a review found the extra appointments were causing excessive waiting times for people trying to access services.

The changes would see 1 million less free, mental health appointments per year and would reduce wait times.

With so many people across our country doing it rough with Fires, floods and with the effects pandemic restrictions on people, mental health services have never been in such high demand.
