A 27 year-old-man is in custody and being questioned by Port Stephens police over the murder of another man last night.

Around 6pm last night police were called to an incident at the train station.

When they arrived, they found a man badly assaulted on the platform.

A young man at a train station attempted to revive the man and NSW ambulance attempted to treat the man but he died at the scene.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on a train nearby.
