In a recent incident at Lake Macquarie, a man has been apprehended for allegedly speeding at an alarming rate. At approximately 3:50 am yesterday, authorities from the Newcastle City Highway Patrol reported a vehicle hurtling at 196km/h in a 90km/h zone on the Newcastle Inner City Bypass, Hillsborough.
Upon interception, the driver of the MG SUV was subjected to a roadside drug test, yielding a purported positive result. Shockingly, the 27-year-old driver, already disqualified from driving, was detained and escorted to Belmont Police Station for further evaluation.
Following secondary drug testing, the Stockton resident faced charges including driving during disqualification, reckless driving, and surpassing the speed limit by over 45 km/h for a class A motor vehicle.
Appearing before the Newcastle Local Court yesterday, the individual was granted strict conditional bail and is set to reappear on Thursday, March 7, 2024, for further proceedings. Investigations into the matter are ongoing. Stay tuned for updates as the story unfolds.
