A cane toad was located in the hunter area, Hunter Land Care Services said they located a juvenile cane toad in Rutherford following recent heavy rains across the East Coast.

Unfortunately recent rains have flushed out another very unwelcome visitor in our region, with a juvenile female cane toad found in Rutherford.

Thankfully it appears she was too young to have laid eggs, but it does serve as another reminder we need to be vigilant about just who is hopping around our suburbs.
Pet owners will have to be on the lookout as cane toads can be dangerous, these poisonous creatures pose a fatal threat to our animals and their toxin is also poisonous to humans.
This is not the first time cane toads have been found in the Hunter, but with recent unprecedented rains across the east coast of Australia over the past few weeks could increase your chances of coming across a Cane Toad.
