Covid casts doubt over Sydney NYE fireworks but what about regional shows?

Last year, many NSW firework displays were cancelled due to the bushfire disaster that gripped the state in 19/20 bushfire season. Whilst some displays were cancelled due to extreme fire danger others had cancelled out of respect for the people who had lost everything and for those who had lost lives.

A few NYE Firework displays still went ahead requiring strict approval from fire authorities. Thousands of people signed petitions to cancel the biggest display of all in Sydney but the show went on and it seemed like nothing could ever stop the Sydney NYE display.

The bushfire season had ended and before we could even thank our hero firefighters the global pandemic was declared with the new Covid-19 virus spreading rapidly around the world.

This year will be different says Sydneys Lord Mayor she is hopeful that the event can go ahead but has conceeded that it might be cancelled for health reasons.”

Will NYE events be held around the Hunter this year?

A spokesperson from Wollombi Tavern told MHV news that they are planning the biggest event this year but will depend on health advice closer to the date.

At this stage we are absolutely planning on running our biggest show ever as we still have last years fireworks and will add some more. Obviously this will all depend on what restrictions are in place at that time. Based on communication re previous imposition of restrictions we only get very sort notice of any changes.

We also spoke with Cr Mitchell Griffin from Maitland Council who told us no descions have been made on Maitlands NYE Show.

No decisions as yet, but it would depend on Covid restrictions closer to the date

Events are being planned but will be subject to health regulations and restrictions, to miss out two years in a row for some venues won’t only be disappointing but devastating.
