Covid temperature screening now in place at Newcastle Airport

NSW Health has been forced into screening people returning form Melbourne after thousands of people have returned to NSW from Melbourne over the past week.

Gladys Berejiklian had no plans to close borders or screen people coming back from Melbourne as she firmly believes in the open border policy.

Gladys Berejiklian faced a massive backlash from the people of NSW who were hoffified to learn that planes and trains full of people from Melbourne have been arriving in NSW unchecked.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard signed a new health order effectively banning people from Melbournes hotspots to entering NSW which came into effect yesterday. He has also urged Victoria to do more before allowing anyone on a plane bound for NSW.

When people arrive in Newcastle driver licenses and addresses are checked to ensure you are not from a Melbourne hotspot along with a temperature check. Unfortunately, these checks are not 100% fool proof and some people will fall through the cracks as Covid has an incubation period.

The biggest concern is just how many people entered NSW unchecked in the past 7 days, there has already been 1 person who was cleared from hotel quarantine in Victoria and tested positive for Covid in NSW.
