Dirt Bike Rider Flees Scene After Collision with Cyclist

Newcastle authorities have launched an urgent appeal for information following a collision between a motorcycle and a bicycle earlier today. At approximately 4 am (Thursday, February 29, 2024), emergency responders rushed to the Glendale to Wallsend Cycle Way in Wallsend, responding to reports of an injured cyclist discovered along the path.

According to reports received by the police, the incident occurred around 3:30 am when a cyclist collided with a trail motorcycle near the underpass of Newcastle Link Road. The motorcyclist briefly stopped at the scene before fleeing, leaving the injured cyclist behind.

Shortly after, another cyclist stopped to provide assistance and promptly alerted emergency services. The injured individual, identified as a 61-year-old man from Elermore Vale, was attended to by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene. He was then transported to John Hunter Hospital due to suspected neck and spinal injuries.

Authorities from the Newcastle City Police District and the Crash Investigation Unit have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. They are urging anyone with relevant CCTV footage or dashcam recordings from the vicinity to come forward and assist in the investigation.
