GOVT LOOKS TO EXTEND LIFE OF LIDDELL – $300 MILLION PER YEAR

The Australia government is looking into extending the life of the Liddell coal power station which is due to close down in 2023 due to its age, AGL will no longer pay to run the aging plant which is under-producing power.

This means if the Australian Government keeps this plant open for an extra 3 years it will cost tax payers $900 Million to keep the aging plant open.

Joel Fitzgibbon issued the following statement on his FB page.

A cruel hoax has been perpetrated upon my Hunter community. It’s just not possible to keep the old girl going to 2026 – it’s certainly not efficient.
I believe my Hunter constituents would rather $300 million spent on future technologies and new job creating technologies rather than trying to keep Liddell open for a few more years.

Joel Fitzgibbon

Liddell is owned and operated by AGL and is set close in 2023, but the Morrison Government wants to keep it open for an additional 3 years at a huge cost to taxpayers.
