A man has died and two people have sustained minor injuries following a shooting on the state’s Central Coast this evening

A man has died and two people have sustained minor injuries following a shooting on the state’s Central Coast this evening.

About 6pm (Tuesday 17 March 2020), emergency services were called to Cutler Drive, Wyong, after reports of a disturbance.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District called for assistance from specialist officers from the Tactical Operations Unit and Negotiators after a 40-year-old man allegedly fired multiple shots.

The man was taken into custody around 7.15pm and remains at Wyong Police Station. No police firearms were discharged.

Police have found the body of a 20-year-old Wattanobbi man at a home in nearby Maple Street, while a 45-year-old woman sustained minor injuries and has been taken to Gosford Hospital in a stable condition. A 50-year-old man also sustained minor injuries and has been treated at Wyong Hospital.

A male police officer sustained a back injury while attempting to assist the 20-year-old man. He is also undergoing treatment in hospital.

Investigations are continuing, with local police being assisted by detectives from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
