Jie William Smith will be eligible to walk free next year after he appeared in Newcastle Supreme Court where Justice Helen Wilson delivered the sentence.
Jie William Smith was sentenced to four years nine months in prison with a non-parole period of three years and six months for the manslaughter of 6 month old baby.
With time already served Jie William Smith will be eligible to walk free next year.
A two-week trial in July heard the child was in the sole custody of Smith when the infant went into cardiac arrest at a New Lambton home in February 2019.
The baby died from a traumatic brain injury.
