Joel Fitzgibbon to call it a day

Labor’s member for Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon to resign from the Labor party at the next Federal election. Joel Fitzgibbon has recently resigned from the front bench of the Labor party over climate policy that left Joel in between a hard place and an electric car.

Joel Fitzgibbon has held the seat since 1996 with very little competition until the 2019 election where Angus Taylor and Stuart Bonds closed the gap

In early December 2006, when Kevin Rudd became leader of the opposition, Fitzgibbon was appointed shadow minister for defence. He was subsequently appointed minister for defence when Labor won office at the 2007 federal election.

Unfortunately, Mr Fitzgibbon was forced to resign as Defense Minister on 4 June 2009 after admitting that meetings held between his brother Mark Fitzgibbon, the head of the health fund NIB, and defense officials concerning business opportunities had breached the Ministerial Code of Conduct.

The Labor Party has been hijacked by the green movement and ultimately Joel knows this position is untenable in the Hunter and no amount of political spin will make you friends whilst the Labor Party commits to climate policy that will ultimately destroy what’s left of the coal industry in Australia.
