In a developing story today, a man has been charged in connection with the alleged theft of a car and subsequent police pursuit near Maitland.
At approximately 7:50 am this morning (Wednesday, February 28, 2024), law enforcement responded to Laurie Drive, Raworth, after spotting a Toyota Hilux reported stolen earlier.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver reportedly fled, sparking a pursuit that extended towards Tenambit. The chase concluded on Korbel Street when the vehicle crashed through a fence.
Subsequently, the driver fled the scene, prompting the deployment of PolAir and the Dog Unit for assistance. Following intensive investigations, authorities arrested a 22-year-old man at a residence on O’Hearn Street, Tenambit.
The suspect faces multiple charges including police pursuit, reckless driving, and driving during a disqualification period. Additionally, he faces 17 other charges related to various offenses including obtaining financial advantage by deception, resisting arrest, and assault on a police officer.
