Police will allege in court that the offences were committed across the Lake Macquarie, Tuggerah Lakes, Brisbane Water and Newcastle City Police Districts since May 2020.

Maximum penalty

Dishonestly obtain property by deception:

The maximum penalty is imprisonment for 10 years where the case is finalised in the District Court, or 2 years where it is dealt with in the Local Court.

Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner:

The maximum penalty for this offence is 5-years imprisonment if it ends up being dealt with in the District Court or 2 years where it is dealt with in the Local Court.

Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period:

The maximum penalty for this offence is fine of $5,500 or 12 months imprisonment

Goods suspected stolen given other not entitled (not motor vehicle):

The maximum penalty for this offence is 6 months imprisonment

Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention:

The maximum penalty is imprisonment for 12 years.

Police Pursuit

(a) in the case of a first offence–imprisonment for 3 years, or
(b) in the case of an offence on a second or subsequent occasion–imprisonment for 5 years.

Where the property exceeds $2,000 but does not exceed $5,000, the maximum penalty that may be imposed is twelve months imprisonment or a fine of $5,500.
