News Update: Wallsend MP Calls Out Newcastle City Council Over Neglected Nature Strip

Wallsend MP Sonia Hornery has raised concerns about the unmowed nature strip along Glenwood Drive in Beresfield, taking a swipe at Newcastle City Council for what she perceives as neglect. In a recent statement, she compared the situation unfavorably to Maitland City Council’s diligent maintenance of the Thornton side, which she noted always looks well-kept.

Hornery, expressing worry about potential safety hazards, particularly with regard to snakes, pointed out the need for prompt action. She went as far as offering to arrange a ribbon-cutting ceremony for councillors, perhaps as a humorous but pointed way to draw attention to the issue.

Accompanying her critique was a photo capturing the stark contrast between the neatly trimmed nature strip on Maitland’s side and the seemingly untouched, overgrown section on Newcastle’s side. The image serves as a visual representation of her concerns and emphasizes the urgency of addressing the neglected area in Beresfield.
