NSW LABOR PLEDGE $5 MILLION TO CONSULT ABORIGINAL COMMUNITIES ON INDIGENOUS TREATY

NSW Labor has announced if they win the upcoming election, they will start a process to for an Indigenous treaty.

The consultation between Aboriginal communities and the Government will cost the taxpayer $5 million.

Local member for Wallsend, Sonia Horney, wrote on Facebook:

“For over 250 years, NSW has had no treaty – NSW Labor will begin the process of changing this.

Committing $5 million to a 12-month consultation process with First Nations communities on a treaty process for NSW.

A process that will be led by First Nations communities and that’s already begun in most other states.

Taking a significant step on the path towards treaty and genuine reconciliation.”
