Save the Cambridge

The Cambridge hotel is an icon in its own right, almost everybody who lives in Newcastle and Hunter has been to a gig at the venue. The Iconic hotel recently announced it will close its doors mid-way through next year, to make way for 19 story high rise student accommodation.

Today the Newcastle Live Music Taskforce was joined by industry representatives and RAAVE TAPES Joab Eastley to launch a plea to keep the Cambridge alive.

Labors MP Tim Crackanthrop was there today to support the iconic hotel and the local music scene and he said

“From local musos, to big Aussie names like Sarah Blasko, The Whitlams Official and You Am I and international acts like blink-182, NOFX and Anberlin – The Cambo is not just a Newcastle institution, it’s a national one.”

Tim Crackanthrop was also joined by Sharon Claydon MP in their quest to save the Cambridge Hotel, she had this to say.

The Cambridge is a Newcastle institution.
It has left a mark in the memory books for many Novocastrians.

Over many decades, the Cambridge has drawn incredible international talent to our city, and it has also helped our new and emerging local artists flourish.

But now it’s time to support our Cambridge. In a few months, this venue could close down once and for all.
