Shocking: Man Rams Police Car, Triggers Wild Pursuit Near Maitland!

Man Charged After Alleged Drug Supply and Pursuit Incident Near Maitland

In a dramatic turn of events today, a man has been charged following a drug supply investigation and an alleged pursuit near Maitland, where an officer sustained injuries.

At approximately 11:40 am yesterday (Wednesday, March 6, 2024), officers from the Hunter Region Enforcement Squad (RES) made an attempt to halt a BMW sedan on Lawes Street, Maitland, in connection to an ongoing drug supply probe.

However, the situation escalated when the driver of the BMW reportedly reversed, striking a NSW Police officer, before fleeing the scene.

The injured officer received on-site medical attention from NSW Ambulance paramedics and was subsequently transported to Maitland Hospital for treatment of a leg injury.

Shortly after, the BMW was spotted by Port Stephens-Hunter Police in Chisholm, prompting a pursuit. The pursuit concluded on Raymond Terrace Road after road spikes were deployed on Harvest Boulevard, causing the vehicle to come to a halt. The driver then allegedly fled into nearby bushland.

Following an extensive search of the area, law enforcement officers apprehended a 40-year-old man. During the arrest, a taser was deployed after a brief struggle.

The man was transported to Maitland Police Station, where he faces a litany of charges, including police pursuit, assault on a police officer, and numerous drug-related offenses, totaling over 50 charges.

Among the charges are allegations of supplying prohibited drugs in various quantities, including large commercial and commercial quantities, indictable quantities, and ongoing supply.

The accused has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear before Maitland Local Court today (Thursday, March 7, 2024), where the full extent of his charges will be addressed.
