STOCKTON A SEA OF RED – SAVE STOCKTON BEACH

An army of over a 500 plus people dressed in red and lined Stockton Beach in a peaceful protest to save Stockton Beach from erosion.

The NSW government and Newcastle council have neglected the beach over the years and the beach is now all but gone, Cabins from the caravan park have had to be relocated on to crown land and residents are furious and see this as cheap land grab by Newcastle City Council.

Lexis Cafe has been forced to close leaving 27 people without a job, the community of Stockton is banding together to say they have had enough.

Today the the NSW Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock issued a directive to Newcastle Council saying before any long term action can be taken it needs to fast track its Coastal Management Plan for Stockton as a matter of urgency.

Council’s been given until June 30 to submit it and has been told it’ll be provided the resourcing and staff to ensure that it can meet the deadline.
