The Albanese’s Govt is moving fast to scrap the worst LNP policy

The newly elected Albanese’s Government is moving quickly to fulfill one of their signature promises and one of the few policy, I agree with, scrapping the cashless debit cards for pensioners.

It was a terrible policy the LNP introduced that diminished the freedom of pensioners leaving them feel like they can’t be trusted with money.

The newly appointed minister for social services Amanda Rishworth said on Facebook earlier today.

The objective of the Cashless Debit Card is to ensure that welfare payments are spent in responsible and meaningful ways, and reduce high levels of social harm.

Whilst the intention may have come from a good place to ensure welfare is spent on essential items the policy really impacted on the freedom of those who were forced onto the card.

The card restricted pensioners from buying alcoholic beverages, gambling, tobacco and the withdrawal cash, whilst a handful of pensioners might benefit from these restrictions not all are problem drinkers and might in need enjoy a night out once in a while and in today’s economy you really aren’t buying much on welfare.

I do commend the Government for moving quickly and restoring the freedom to pensioners.
