Two men arrested after a dangerous high speed pursuit through the streets of Raymond Terrace


Two men were arrested after a high speed pursuit through the streets of Raymond Terrace in the early hours of Saturday the 6th of February.

Police observed a blue Toyota Kluger travelling along Tathra St Raymond Terrace. Police attempted to stop the vehicle for the purpose of a random breath test with the vehicle accelerating harshly away from police.

Police made numerous attempts to stop the vehicle with no success. The offending vehicle then crashed through the front gates of the Muree Golf Course and reversed into the front of the Police vehicle. The passenger was apprehended at the vehicle with the driver running for the scene and police making chase on foot. The driver was arrested a short time later.

A search of the vehicle produced a silver coloured pistol and magazine, a quantity of what is believed to be the drug ‘ice” and an amount of cannabis. Both men were conveyed to Raymond Terrace Police station with the driver of the vehicle being conveyed to the Mater Hospital due to being heavily affected by drugs.

Further enquiries revealed that the registration plates found on the vehicle were stolen and it is suspected that the motor vehicle itself is also stolen however further investigation is required. The driver of the vehicle was charged with Police, Pursuit, Malicious damage, possess unauthorised pistol, not keep firearm safe, possess prohibited drug, possess property stolen outside of NSW, Goods in custody suspected of being stolen, and Drive whilst disqualified.

He was bail refused and appeared in Newcastle Local Court 7/02/21.
