Whale spotted at Caves Beach with 2 Orange buoys attached to the tail

This morning, the ORRCA Rescue Hotline received a call about another young whale swimming off Caves beach north of the Central Coast.

It is travelling close to shore and we are keen to get some photos and video of this whale to help our team track it and its condition.

Summer whale sightings are special, and we are encouraging anyone who sees a whale to please report it into the ORRCA Rescue Hotline on 02 9415 3333. There are many species that enjoy our waters year-round but this recent sighting is young Humpback still slowly heading south.

Latest sighting details:
When: Monday 16th January
Where: Spotted off Caves beach at 10am
Direction of movement: swimming slowly south
Sighting: confirmed
Observation: moving slowly, 2 Orange buoys attached to the tail area

We currently have ORRCA members out at various vantage points trying to spot and track this young whale.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
If you are out and about along the coast in this area, we are asking members of the public to please call in any sightings and to take videos and photos plus a GPS location. If filming marine mammals, via any medium, please always respect the rules and regulations that apply.

IMPORTANTLY, never approach whales. They may be coming into our beaches and bays to rest. All Whales and Dolphins are protected in Australian waters. Under the law, exclusion zones apply.

WARNING: These wild, large animals can be dangerous when they feel threatened!
