Wollombi Tavern patrons put on notice as police issue formal warning

Wollombi Tavern has been issued a formal warning after patrons were seen breaching Covid safe rules, it seems some people think because its a regional location the rules don’t apply. Wollombi Tavern said police have been out there three times in the past two weeks and they’re over it in a statement made on their on Facebook page.

Okay, this is not a funny or quirky post but the time has come The police have been here 3 times in the last 2 weeks and we are over it. Effective immediately, we will have zero tolerance for people who can’t manage to social distance or remain seated while at the Tavern. You will be asked politely once to comply and if you don’t or do it again you will be politely asked to leave!! Thanks.

MHV NEWS asked whether it was tourists or locals breaking the rules?

“In truth it is both. Tourists, whilst generally compliant, we have a fair share of belligerent non-conformists who seem to think the rules don’t apply “in the country”. Unfortunately, it is a small but persistent group of locals who present the biggest problem and continually and selfishly try to get away with whatever they can.”

There needs too be greater responsibility put on individuals breaking the rules who can be fined $1,000 but unfortunately we are not seeing this happen, rather venues are being held accountable for the actions of a few.

Wollombi Tavern said staff had been reduced to tears trying to enforce the rules that the government has placed on all venues and would have to reduce opening hours if patrons continue to break the rules. Such a move would affect casual staff who would have their hours cut and lose money.
