Rain on the weather forecast won’t be enough.

We are expecting some rain to fall on the Gospers Mountain fire with a late shower producing less than 1mm of rain.

Saturday we are expecting a late thunderstorm that should drop between 1mm to 5mm of rain, this thunderstorm could do more harm than good as it not going to produce much rain and with current drought conditions could easily start new fires.

How much rain do we need.

The Gospers Mountain fire is a monster of a fire in size at last count was 140,000ha a fire this large in non drought conditions will require 50mm to 60mm of slow rain over a 24 to 48 hour period.

Followed up by a week of below average temperatures and we might just defeat the Gospers Mountain fire.

Unfortunately for us and the fire fighters were not going to see enough rain to make an impact, best case scenario is that it will slow the fire down giving fire crews a chance to build more containment lines

Worst case scenario is that thunderstorm whips up the winds and increasing fire activities or lighting strikes create more fires for our already exhausted fire crews.
