Teens charged over alleged baseball bat assault – Blackalls Park

Police have charged two people after a man was allegedly hit with a baseball bat at Blackalls Park yesterday.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District have been told four men were walking along a path near Greenway Reserve about 4pm Saturday (15 February 2020), when two youths on an unregistered motorcycle rode past them.

The older men yelled at the youths to get off the path and continued walking.

A short time later, the men were at the intersection of Aldon Crescent and Narara Street, when they heard the motorcycle return.

Police have been told the pillion passenger got off the bike and allegedly struck one of the men on the elbow with a baseball bat before both rode away.

The 69-year-old man sustained a serious wound to his left arm and a fractured left elbow. He is being treated at John Hunter Hospital.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 16-year-old youth and an 18-year-old man at a home nearby.
They were taken to Toronto Police Station and have now been charged with cause grievous bodily harm with intent and a number of traffic offences.

They were refused bail to appear in Toronto Local Court later today (Sunday 16 February 2020).
