Pursuit ends in taking out the trash near Newcastle

Police have arrested and charged a 39 year old male following a short pursuit and crash in Hamilton South on Monday.

About 10:15am Monday 18 May 2020, officers from Newcastle City Target Action Group were undertaking proactive patrols as part of a “Week of Action” operation. They attempted to stop a Holden Commodore due to its manner of driving on Glebe Road, Hamilton South.

When police activated their emergency lights and siren, the driver of the commodore sped up to 80km/h and failed to stop, engaging in a pursuit with police. The pursuit lasted a short distance before the driver lost control of the vehicle in Ella Street, Adamstown. The vehicle narrowly missed colliding with a parked vehicle before striking a gutter and garbage bins.

Police arrested the driver, a 39 year old male from Hamilton South, without incident. It was ascertained he had not held a licence since 1999 and was disqualified till September 2021.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit (Skyes Law) and drive whilst disqualified. He was released on conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on 17 July 2020.
