Water Bombing Helicopter Crash – Bega Valley

At around 4pm this afternoon, a contract helicopter working for the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) ditched into a dam on the Far South Coast of NSW.

The waterbombing aircraft ditched into the Ben Boyd Reservoir in the Ben Boyd National Park at Edrom, in the Bega Valley Shire.

The aircraft had been moved from the Clyde Mountain fire to work on Border fire in Eden.

The aircraft remains submerged however the pilot was able to free himself from the aircraft and is safely onshore.
