In a major police operation today in Newcastle, over 80 individuals have been apprehended. The authorized assembly in the Port of Newcastle, as outlined in the Form 1, concluded at 4 pm (Sunday, 26 November 2023).
Court allegations state that despite explicit warnings from the police after the expiration of the authorized assembly, a group of protesters deliberately entered the harbour channel. The result: more than 80 arrests, with individuals currently undergoing processing by law enforcement. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the arrest proceedings.
By 5:30 pm, all individuals were successfully cleared from the harbour area, allowing normal harbour operations to resume. Given the substantial number of arrests, the charging process is expected to be time-consuming. Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding situation.
