In a shocking turn of events, the Kearsley Remembrance site has been targeted by thieves twice in recent days, resulting in the theft of the Australian National Flag. Dedicated volunteers, committed to honoring the service personnel from Kearsley, Abernethy, and Elrington, express their dismay and frustration.
Despite tireless efforts to create a space of remembrance at the Kearsley Community Hall, vandals have desecrated the area not once, but twice. The stolen Australian National Flag, proudly displayed over commemorative plaques representing over 170 local men and women who answered the call to duty, has left the community deeply disturbed.
Under the cover of darkness this past weekend, unknown individuals entered the area of remembrance and stole the flag. Undeterred, volunteers swiftly replaced it with a new one, only to have it stolen again within 12 hours.
Dan Repacholi MP provided assistance in obtaining a replacement flag, but the repeated thefts have left the community questioning the motives behind such disrespectful acts. The war memorial, a tribute to the 13 men from Kearsley, Abernethy, and Edenville who made the ultimate sacrifice, is now devoid of the Australian National Flag.
Expressing concern over the blatant disregard for the sanctity of the memorial, volunteers emphasize that this is not just an attack on them but a direct assault on the memories of those honored in the area of remembrance. Urging the public to come forward with any information that may help recover the stolen flags, the community seeks justice for the fallen heroes who are at the heart of this unfortunate incident.
