Kurri Kurri, renowned as the town of murals, proudly reveals its latest addition – a breathtaking mural adorning the Empire Tavern wall, located opposite Log of Knowledge Park. Hunter LLS, along with various partners, played a pivotal role in this initiative, showcasing the critically-endangered Regent Honeyeater, the local Tomalpin Woodlands, and the misunderstood mistletoe.
The mural not only enhances the town’s aesthetic appeal but also sheds light on the plight of the Regent Honeyeater, whose population in the wild hovers between 250-300 birds. Positioned near a local breeding site, this artwork becomes a crucial educational tool, drawing attention to the conservation needs of this endangered species.
Partners involved in this commendable project include BirdLife Australia, NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, artist Jenny McCracken, Zest Event Management Group, Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council, Cessnock City Council Threatened Species Commissioner, and Towns With Heart Inc.
