An 18-year-old has been charged after allegedly setting multiple fires in bushland around Morisset on Friday evening. Around 7 p.m. on 1 November 2024, Lake Macquarie Police received numerous calls reporting fires deliberately lit between Bernie Goodwin Oval and Gibson Field.
Officers located two youths—a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old—in a nearby toilet block. During the attempted arrest, the 18-year-old allegedly struck an officer in the face.
The teenager was taken to Toronto Police Station, where he was charged with causing or setting fire to property and resisting a police officer in the line of duty. He has been granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Toronto Local Court on 12 November 2024.
