
1 in 4 Hunter Valley drivers test positive to drugs
A major police operation in the Hunter Valley has uncovered alarming results, with one in four drivers allegedly testing positive to illegal drugs. Between Thursday 14 August and Monday 18 August 2025, Traffic and Highway Patrol Officers carried out 304 roadside drug tests. Of those, 78 drivers returned positive results and are now awaiting further analysis. The operation comes after the region recorded 285 injury crashes in the past 12 months, including 15 fatalities. Police say speed, alcohol and drug use remain key contributors. During the blitz, 418 roadside breath tests were also conducted, with three drivers allegedly over the limit. Officers issued...
