Newcastle detectives have arrested and charged a third man in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old earlier this year.
Emergency services were called to the Bar Beach carpark on Memorial Drive about 11.40pm on Wednesday 23 April 2025, where a man was found with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by NSW Ambulance paramedics, he died at the scene.
Police allege a fight broke out in the carpark before a white SUV arrived and a man armed with a firearm got out, opened fire, and fled in the vehicle. A crime scene was established, and Strike Force Bolwarra was formed with Newcastle detectives and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Two men have already been charged and remain before the courts.
Following further inquiries, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a Charlestown home on Wednesday afternoon, where they allegedly seized $7,900 cash, 28 grams of cocaine, and an electronic device.
An 18-year-old man was arrested at the property and taken to Newcastle Police Station. He has since been charged with multiple firearm offences, including possessing unauthorised pistols and a prohibited firearm, as well as failing to disclose another passenger’s identity.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Local Court 2 today.
Investigations under Strike Force Bolwarra are ongoing.
