A man has been charged following a fatal crash in Mayfield East at the weekend that claimed the lives of two young passengers. Just after 11.15pm on Saturday (30 August 2025), emergency services were called to Maitland Road after a Toyota Corolla left the road, struck a power pole and caught fire. The 24-year-old driver and a 19-year-old passenger were pulled from the burning vehicle by members of the public. Both suffered minor injuries and were taken to John Hunter Hospital.
