Bus services in the Charlestown area have been suspended following the alleged stabbing of a driver, with the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) issuing an urgent safety direction this afternoon.
The union confirmed a “cease unsafe work” order has been implemented, citing concerns that operator Keolis Downer failed to adequately ensure driver safety.
Under the directive:
🛑 Buses will cease operating this afternoon.
🛑 No new services will begin after 6pm today.
🛑 Services are suspended until further notice.
Despite the service shutdown, all rostered employees have been instructed to attend work at their normal start times, take scheduled breaks, and finish at their usual times. Workers are to be paid while complying with the safety direction.
The move follows the shocking incident in Charlestown, which has reignited concerns about frontline transport worker safety across the region.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
