NSW Road Cameras Expand Reach on Single-Lane RoadsNSW Road Cameras Expand Reach on Single-Lane Roads
Drivers across New South Wales are being warned that mobile detection cameras will now monitor traffic in both directions on single-lane roads.
In a statement, Transport for NSW confirmed its transportable Mobile Phone and Seatbelt Detection Cameras will operate at full bi-directional capability.
“Heads up: our transportable Mobile Phone and Seatbelt Detection Cameras will now operate to their full capability of bi-directional coverage on single lane roads,” the agency said.
Until now, the cameras were limited to checking up to two lanes of traffic travelling in one direction. The change means drivers heading either way on single-lane roads can now be detected for illegal mobile phone use or failing to wear a seatbelt.
Authorities say the move is aimed at improving road safety and reducing serious injuries and fatalities linked to distracted driving and seatbelt offences.
Motorists are being urged to ensure they are complying with road rules at all times, regardless of direction of travel.
