Investigation Underway After Bus and Ute Crash Into Lake Macquarie Home

April 17 11:04 AM • MHV NEWS

An investigation is underway following a serious crash in the Lake Macquarie area this morning, where a bus and ute collided before both vehicles struck a residential property.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Clydebank Road and Oakwood Road at Balmoral shortly before 6am on Friday (17 April 2026), where they found multiple people trapped following the impact.

A female passenger in the ute was freed from the wreckage by Fire and Rescue NSW before being transported to John Hunter Hospital with multiple injuries. She remains in a critical condition.

The 72-year-old male bus driver was also extricated and taken to hospital, where he is being treated for a suspected leg injury and is reported to be in a stable condition.

Three other occupants of the ute—including the 43-year-old driver, his wife, and their eight-year-old son—were taken to hospital as a precaution for further assessment.

Two residents inside the home at the time were not injured, however the property sustained significant structural damage as a result of the collision.

Police are continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
