A former high school teacher has been jailed after being convicted of having a sexual relationship with a student.

Karly Rae was today sentenced to a minimum of two years in prison over the offending, which involved a 15-year-old boy in 2024 while she was working as a special education teacher at Belmont High School.

The court heard prosecutors alleged Rae initiated contact with the boy through social media before the relationship became intimate. It was further alleged she asked the teenager to lie about his age after police uncovered inappropriate messages between the pair.
