A 44-year-old man is set to face court today after an alleged early morning police pursuit that ended in bushland near Newcastle.
Just before 2am on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, police attempted to stop a vehicle on Minmi Road, Edgeworth. The driver allegedly failed to comply, prompting a pursuit that spanned several key roads, including the Hunter Expressway and John Renshaw Drive, before looping back through Minmi and into Wallsend.
The chase came to a dramatic end when the suspect allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushland. Police, with the help of the Dog Unit, tracked and arrested the man a short time later.
He was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with multiple offences, including:
- Police pursuit – fail to stop – drive dangerously
- Driving while disqualified
- Assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty (without causing bodily harm)
The man was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today.
