A body has been found in an unused mine shaft in the Hunter Valley, with police now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Emergency services responded to Dry Creek Road, Ellalong, about 12km from Cessnock, after receiving reports of a man’s body discovered around 12:45 PM today.
NSW Police, Ambulance, and Mines Rescue teams rushed to the scene, with initial investigations indicating the incident is related to a workplace accident.
Officers from the Hunter Valley Police District remain on-site, assisted by Police Rescue, NSW Ambulance, and Fire and Rescue NSW.
The man has yet to be formally identified, and his family has not yet been notified. Further updates will follow as the investigation continues.
