Detectives from the Criminal Groups Squad have charged two inmates in connection with the alleged supply of drugs to a correctional facility in the Hunter region.
The investigation, initiated in April 2023, focused on the use of “dial-a-dealer” phones for drug distribution across Sydney. During the probe, law enforcement uncovered a criminal syndicate operating within the Cessnock correctional centre.
To date, six individuals—four men and two women—have been charged in relation to this criminal network, all of whom remain before the courts.
On Monday, September 23, 2024, detectives arrested two men, aged 31 and 23, at the Silverwater correctional facility. The 31-year-old faces three counts of supplying a prohibited drug in small quantities and participating in a criminal group. The 23-year-old has been charged with supplying a prohibited drug in small quantities and participation in criminal activities.
Both men were refused bail and appeared before Parramatta Local Court, where they were again denied bail, with a further court appearance scheduled for Thursday, September 26, 2024.
Prosecutors will allege that the two men, believed to be associates of the Alameddine Organised Crime Network, played key roles in facilitating drug supplies to the correctional facility, valued at approximately $250,000.
