Man Charged Over Serious Crash in Hunter Valley
A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with a serious crash in the Hunter region last week that left a teenage girl with significant injuries.
The incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Thursday, 8 August 2024, when police were alerted to a 17-year-old girl who arrived at a hospital on Metford Road, Metford, with serious injuries. The injuries were believed to have resulted from a hit-and-run incident earlier that evening on Camp Road, Greta.
The girl was later transferred to John Hunter Hospital for treatment of severe lower body injuries.
An investigation was immediately launched by the Hunter Valley Police District to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 20-year-old man in Greta around 2:00 pm on Wednesday, 14 August 2024. He was subsequently taken to Singleton Police Station, where he was charged with seven offenses, including:
- Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm
- Negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm
- Failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm
- Performing burnouts causing a sustained loss of traction
- Driving without a license
- Operating an unregistered vehicle
- Operating an uninsured vehicle
Police allege the man was performing burnouts in a Ford Falcon when he lost control of the vehicle, striking the 17-year-old girl.
The man has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear in Singleton Local Court today.
