In breaking news, a teenager has been arrested following a two-vehicle collision on The Long Bridge, High Street, Maitland, early this morning. At around 6:15 am, emergency services responded to reports of a crash involving a white Toyota Hilux utility and a motorcycle.
The 58-year-old motorcyclist was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in serious condition. Police from the Port Stephens-Hunter District arrested a 16-year-old male, allegedly the driver of the utility, close to the scene. The teenager was taken to Maitland Hospital under police guard for treatment and mandatory testing.
Preliminary investigations suggest the Toyota Hilux had been reported stolen from Pelaw Main the previous night. A crime scene has been established, and the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) is now examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. Both vehicles have been seized for forensic examination.
As the investigation continues, police urge anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or visit Crime Stoppers NSW. All information is treated with strict confidence.
