GoFundMe Launched for Maitland Mother Battling Rare Cancer
A GoFundMe page has been established to support Sarah Kathleen Blight, a 29-year-old Maitland mother fighting a severe battle against cancer. Sarah, a devoted mother to her 4-year-old son Lachlan, has been a pillar of strength and compassion for her family and community. Known for her selflessness and dedication, Sarah is now facing a critical health crisis and needs our help.
Sarah has long struggled with endometriosis, infertility, and polycystic ovary syndrome, which required multiple surgeries and management of chronic pain. Recently, her condition took a devastating turn. In February, a concerning growth was detected, which rapidly increased in size, leading to an emergency surgery on July 19, 2024. During this procedure, it was discovered that Sarah’s growth was a tumor, not just an endometrioma as initially thought.
The surgery revealed further complications: an infection and a severe bowel leak necessitated a colostomy bag, which Sarah will have to manage for the next three months. The biopsy results were heartbreaking—Sarah was diagnosed with Cystadenocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer. This diagnosis was particularly shocking as the cancer had developed in an unusual location, with the endometriosis acting as a host for the malignancy.
Sarah’s journey has been fraught with challenges. Additional biopsies indicated that the cancer has spread and traditional treatments like chemotherapy are often ineffective against this type. With the cancer affecting her vaginal wall and surgery to remove it delayed by the colostomy bag, Sarah faces an uncertain future.
Currently, Sarah is unable to work and provide for her son due to her medical condition and ongoing treatment. The financial burden of medical costs, combined with the loss of income, threatens her stability and her ability to care for Lachlan.
Your support can make a significant difference. Donations to Sarah’s GoFundMe will help cover medical expenses, lost income, and provide essential support for her family during this difficult time. Every contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated and can aid in her fight against this devastating illness.
