Kai Pearce-Paul Hospitalized After Nasty Shin Injury; Knights Face Tough Road Ahead
Newcastle Knights forward Kai Pearce-Paul was rushed to the hospital after suffering a severe shin injury during the match. A boot stud left a large gash on his shin, requiring immediate surgery. Coach O’Brien described the injury as “huge, like a shark bite,” noting that while it’s not a bone break or soft-tissue injury, it’s still a significant wound.
Pearce-Paul was injured late in the first half after several tackles before limping off to seek medical attention. The Knights are also set to be without Tyson Frizell next week due to a concussion, though there is hope that State of Origin centre Bradman Best could return from a hamstring injury.
Despite these challenges, Newcastle remains determined to make the finals. Kalyn Ponga, who was instrumental in the Knights’ win over South Sydney, expressed his readiness to lead the team back to the finals. Newcastle currently sits 11th on the ladder but remains in contention for a top-eight finish. They must win their remaining games against Gold Coast and the Dolphins while hoping for slip-ups from Brisbane and St George Illawarra.
Ponga provided a standout moment during the match, breaking the line twice in quick succession to set up a crucial try.
